Story Arcs in Outer Banks

  • In Outer Banks there are many different story arcs that intertwine throughout the series. One of those arcs could be the group of friends called the Pogues who are less wealthy, and they go on a hunt for hidden treasure, and along the way face many different challenges and difficulties. Another story arc could be the group of Kooks which the Pogue's have a rivalry with, which also causes trouble for the Pogue's, especially on their adventure to find hidden treasure. There are also many other arcs revolving around romance and relationships. One of these romance arcs could be the relationship between John B. and Sarah. Another could be the love triangle between JJ, Kiara, and Pope. This love triangle eventually separated and turned into relationships between Kiara and JJ, and Pope with Cleo. There are also many other story arcs between each of the characters individually. For example, we can see this personal story arc with the main character, John B. This TV show displays him as carefree teenager, but as the show progresses it gives us additional information on the disappearance of his father, and shows all the difficulties he faces, including dangerous encounters, complicated relationships, and the loss of loved ones. Additionally, there are many story arcs within this Tv show, especially ones involving the characters individually and most of which are not listed.
  • Each story arc in this Tv Show does follow Todorov's narrative theory. We can identify this, because using his equilibrium theory (beginning of a story) this Tv show perfectly pictures the beginning of this life with the Kooks and Pogue's. It first introduces are main characters which are the Pogue's and straight away gives us a problem they get into with the police, but it seems normal for them. We then get to hear the voiceover of the main character, John B. He explains who they are, and then gives us additional information of their rival group called the Kook's. Using Todorov's theory of Disequilibrium (the "middle" when the protagonist runs into a problem) we can recognize the majority of the narrative. This is visible when the Pogues find a boat at the bottom of the trench. They keep it a secret and begin their search for a hidden treasure after John B's dad went missing trying to find it. This brings along other problems and difficulties on their adventure, such as their rival group the Kook's trying to invade their search for their treasure, and even attempted to take it from them. They also had to navigate in treacherous water, making their search even more strenuous. Finally, to use Todorov's theory of New Equilibrium (the "end", protagonist solves problem) Outer Banks incorporates this into the show by showing the closure of his father and allows the Pogue's to obtain the treasure they found and have a right to. However, while the end of this show wraps up a few story arcs, it also leaves room for unanswered questions and unresolved plots. Outer Banks does this to leave room for future developments and seasons and keeps the audience coming back to fill in the gaps from the cliffhanger they gave us.
  • These different types of story arcs feed into the main narrative arc by showing each individual's personal journey and growth, these characters stories intertwine to create a larger narrative. The story arcs involving the Pouge's, and the Kook's also are added to create a stronger narrative. These two groups combine and create a rivalry to further the plot and serve as the central driving force of the story. The different romance arcs also play a role to fit the main narrative to connect more drama to the show and helps to fit the more teenager perspective this show intends to create. As the characters face challenges, make discoveries, and navigate their relationships. the narrative arc builds anticipation to keep us as the audience engaged. Overall, this show is a thrilling adventure with twists that will always keep you on the edge of your seat and that ultimately leads to the cliffhanger we discussed earlier keeping the audience questioning, "what comes next?"

Week 9: Finishing on Adobe

This week on Adobe I worked to completely finish the editing portion of the film project. Olivia was able to find audios to go with the film, so I imported the audios and placed them where I thought they would be good, and where Olivia had suggested putting them. I also needed to figure out with the audio how to adjust some clips. So, I asked Mr. Z how and just learned how to audio gain on certain clips. I adjusted the sound on the music I imported to be louder in some areas or be quieter in order to hear the original audio at the same time. Also, with sound in the same clip being louder I could either take the eraser tool and snip that portion then adjust the audio gain, or I had Mr. Z show me how to adjust the sound of one part of a clip by dragging points into the sound and adjusting those points, which was smoother than just snipping it. After this, to make the audio smoother I included exponential fades into the audio to either fade the sound in or out. I...
