Week 4: Changes to Project & Why

During filming it was a little hectic since there was quite a bit of us, so we forgot to film a few scenes on Monday. However, we did end up filming them and then refilming a few other scenes when we met on Friday. Along with filming, I also began editing which I am mostly in charge of with Olivia's help if needed. With editing this week, I mainly just started putting scenes together in order and made sure they all flowed okay. I did notice while editing in a few scenes the lighting was a bit off and some scenes were lighter than they should have been based on the time of day the film was set to take place. The scenes where the "grandma" was saying goodnight were in a brighter lighting and there were windows indicating it was daytime in those scenes, when it was supposed to be around 7:00. So, we re-recorded those scenes on Friday when we met, so it was darker.

Along with those scenes being too bright, there was a scene with the main characters sister that we filmed on Monday where she knocked on the bathroom door and told the girls to hurry up. This scene was also too bright, and there was a window behind her casting a bright light from the sun, so we refilmed that scene Friday as well, to indicate the time was later, since it was darker inside the house. In addition, we had a section where all of the characters except the grandma were supposed to be sneaking out. We attempted to film this part on Monday, but since we were filming earlier in the day it was not dark enough to give the illustration of it being nighttime, so again we refilmed this scene on Friday where we were all able to stay out later since it wasn't a school night. The last scene I was able to refilm over the weekend was one where the camera is facing towards a clock and the clock changes from 5:59pm to 6:00pm. I figured since the time is later at night, I retook the scene to show the clock change from 6:59pm to 7:00pm.

Besides these changes mainly relating to the time of day, and these were the changes made from Monday to Friday, there were many other changes based upon the types of camera angles we used, which we altered on Monday when we filmed, because it either looked better, or fit our 2-minute time limit better. In past blogs it was said that during the birthday party we would have the main character walk towards the cake while everyone sang happy birthday. Instead, we just had our characters say happy birthday, and left the extra details of the song out. we also had to change what the character wore, because we could not find any good red dresses where we shopped for our main character to wear, so instead the made her wear a red long sleeve top, and blue denim jeans. In the bathroom, we also had the main characters best friend Harper pull drugs out from underneath the bathroom sink instead of her pocket which is what we originally were going to do. Lastly, another change was when everyone was sneaking out. Originally the idea was that everyone was going to climb out the window, but my windows have screens on them we didn't want to take off. So instead, we decided to have everyone sneak out the front door.

To conclude, there were many changes this week when filming since we did most of our shoots this week. Some of the changes we made were based on light, and others were because of different camera angles that we thought looked better. Some changes were also with scenes we even left out to try and cut some time since we only have 2 minutes to film what we need to. With these changes I feel the project is going really well and we made the right moves on what to change within the filming portion of the project.

Week 9: Finishing on Adobe

This week on Adobe I worked to completely finish the editing portion of the film project. Olivia was able to find audios to go with the film, so I imported the audios and placed them where I thought they would be good, and where Olivia had suggested putting them. I also needed to figure out with the audio how to adjust some clips. So, I asked Mr. Z how and just learned how to audio gain on certain clips. I adjusted the sound on the music I imported to be louder in some areas or be quieter in order to hear the original audio at the same time. Also, with sound in the same clip being louder I could either take the eraser tool and snip that portion then adjust the audio gain, or I had Mr. Z show me how to adjust the sound of one part of a clip by dragging points into the sound and adjusting those points, which was smoother than just snipping it. After this, to make the audio smoother I included exponential fades into the audio to either fade the sound in or out. I...
